FLINT & BAY CITY -- General Motors  is investing $109 million into two Mid-Michigan plants.

Flint Engine Operations  will get 78 new employees to help continuing work in building engine parts for the Chevy Cruze and Chevy Volt.  GM Manager of Manufacturing in North America, Larry Zahner, says this investment is thanks to higher demand for GM’s products.  He states, “the final car assembly line is driving what we do. They’re selling, we’re growing- it’s creating jobs here and all around the United States.” 

But, the news doesn’t end there.  The Detroit-based automaker is pouring $25 million dollars into the Bay City Powertrain Plant, and creating 25 jobs.  This location will continue to build parts for the Cruze and Volt, but will also build engine components for the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic that’s scheduled to release in the Fall.

These additions are a part of a nation wide General Motors expansion.  The company plans on adding about 4,000 total jobs in eight states around the nation.

Paul Matney, a team leader at Flint Engine, says, “I’m glad to see they’re investing more in the United States rather than going to other foreign countries.”
