LANSING -- A new Michigan Supreme Court ruling now allows jurors to take notes and even ask the witnesses questions during trials.
According to the Detroit News, it took two years of testing in 12 Michigan courts before this change was made. Chief Justice Robert Young Jr. tells the Detroit News that this will take away some of the restrictions on juries, and allow them to be "truly involved" in cases.
The Associated Press reports that Justice Diane Hathaway is against the idea of jurors asking questions, saying it could impact the rights of people on trial.
According to the Detroit Free Press, the rules will take effect on September 1st.
