BAY COUNTY -- In an effort to go paper-less, Bay City officials have received iPads.

Mayor Christopher Shannon and each of the commissioners received the touch-screen tablets so they could send and receive documents, and save money on printing costs.

Apple sells each iPad for $600, and there is a $37.99 monthly 3G wireless fee. However, the Bay City Times reports this technology move will save the city about $11,000.

According to the Bay City Times, some argued that the officials could use their laptops for this purpose, but one commissioner stated that it wouldn’t save the city money because they would have to purchase Internet Air cards and some of the current laptops are not wireless compatible.
