FLINT -- General Motors made an announcement Monday that is great news for employees at the Flint Assembly Plant and the community.

The company will invest $328 million in the plant to produce the next generation of the Chevrolet Silverado and GM Sierra pickup trucks. The move will create / retain 150 jobs.

“The best trucks in the world are made right here in Flint, Michigan,” Flint’s Mayor Dayne Walling stated Monday morning.

This news comes on the heels of General Motor’s latest announcement to add a third shift at the Flint Assembly Plant, adding more than 700 additional jobs. Combined with this week’s new, production workers say it’s a sign of hope.  “The morale is going to be really great. Everybody’s really positive and upbeat and I think it’s the best news we could have,” said Tim Shoup, an employee at the plant.

Joe Ashton, Vice President of the United Auto Workers, echoes Shoup’s joy, saying it’s a win-win for all. “It’s not only the most important thing to us, look at Flint. They need jobs; they need work.”

Some say this announcement is another sign that General Motors is making a comeback in the wake of bankruptcy.

“It’s a great day not only for the workers of 598, but it’s a great day for Flint,” Local 598 Chairman Dana Rouse told NBC25.
