The state has ruled that Michigan State University and Wayne State University did not violate the state’s tuition cap.

Currently, Governor Rick Snyder has enforced a tuition cap, that only allows colleges and universities to hike their prices by 7%.  Recently, MSU and Wayne State came under scrutiny, when it appeared they had raised their rate by about 9%.

However, according to NBC25’s sister station, WDIV-TV, state budget director, John Nixon, ruled Thursday that the universities were in “technical compliance” with the law. 

If the universities had been found in violation, the state would have dropped millions of dollars in aid.
