SAGINAW -- A Saginaw City Council candidate has been jailed for allegedly attacking his neighbor with a machete.
Saginaw County Prosecutor Mike Thomas tells NBC25, 38-year-old Christopher Kaczmarek was charged Friday with assault, and is being held in the Saginaw County jail on a $20,000 bond.
Thomas says a neighbor told Kazmarek that his CB Radio was interfering with his television signal. Kazmarek then reportedly went over to the nieghbor's home on August 12th and slashed him with the machete several times.
Fortunately, the victim survived and is expected to recover from the injuries.
Thomas tells NBC25 that Kazmarek has a history of crime. He pleaded guilty to Breaking and Entering in 1994. He was also caught drunk driving in 2009.
Diane Herman, the Saginaw City Clerk, tells NBC25 Kaczmarek has only filed to be considered for the city council seat. His full paperwork process has not yet been completely approved. Despite these accusations, unless he is convicted of a felony, he will still be eligible to run for the office.
