SAGINAW -- A former Saginaw Police Officer has filed a $75,000 lawsuit against the City of Saginaw, claiming racial discrimination.
In the lawsuit documentation, Leon Burns claims he “suffered a number of adverse employment actions because of his race for retaliation and making allegations of race discrimination,” and that he had been “unlawfully” terminated.
The document continues that Burns “has been subjected to a racially hostile and abuse work environment, filled with retaliation, and failure to investigate claims of retaliation in violate of Defendant’s very own policies.”
Apparently, the alleged racial discrimination began in December of 2008 while Burns was plowing a driveway. The Saginaw News elaborates, saying Burns had interacted with a member of the public who reportedly made some sort of racial discrimination against Burns. The lawsuit paperwork claims that the information was passed on to the Police
Department, but that no action was taken. It then suggests that police continued to discriminate against Burns. Burns had been punished by the Department for several violations, but he claims he only received these because of his race. Eventually, Burns’ employment at the Department was terminated.
