FLINT -- Mott Community College is achieving national recognition.
The Flint-based college was recently named one of the top ten community colleges in the nation, and because of their status, they are in the running to receive a $1 million prize. The winner of that competition will be announced in December.
Mott Community College Professor Michael Kelly says that even if they don’t win the money, they’re honored to have the recognition. There are about 1,200 community colleges across the country, and to be placed in the top ten is an honor of its own.
Kelly believes their focus on the Flint community is something unique to their college, and that their emphasis on “learning” and not just “teaching” has helped them lead the way. He also says their affordable tuition has made them a competitive, yet qualified choice for students.
You can watch a clip of Kelly’s interview from the NBC25 Today Show Tuesday. In the meantime, do you think that Mott Community College can help turn the City of Flint around? Leave us your comments below.
