Michigan lawmakers have sided with the Michigan Retailers Association to require more online businesses to collect sales tax.
According to the Associated Press, lawmakers at the State Capital Tuesday renewd the push in an effort to enforce businesses that sell items online to collect the 6% tax.
The Detroit Free Press reports that some out of state online only retailers aren’t currently enforcing Michigan’s sales tax at the point of checkout for Michigan residents. Retailers tell the Free Press that this hurts Michigan store-front businesses as more people turn to online shopping.
According to the AP, Rep. Jim Ananich of Flint and other Republicans will introduce bills that will move this legislation forward.
