Laingsburg man charged for jumping out of sheriff's vehicle

Stephen John Kares has been charged for escaping from a sheriff's vehicle.

SHIAWASSEE COUNTY -- The Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Department reports an escaped prisoner has been caught and charged.

Thirty-five year old Stephen John Kares of Laingsburg reportedly jumped out of a sheriff’s vehicle on I-69 on October 11th. Police were able to track him down and catch him.

Detective Lieutenant David Kirk reports Kares is now charged with attempted peace officer disarming, assault causing injury to a police officer, escape from jail, and a habitual offender 4^th notice.

Kares remains lodged in the Shiawassee County jail.
