FLINT -- Flint Mayor Dayne Walling is calling the Halloween weekend a success as the number of structure fires during Halloween weekend were fewer than last year.

In total, the City of Flint reports there were 15 blazes that occurred between the Halloween Weekend that took place Friday night at 6:00 p.m. through 6:00 p.m. Tuesday morning.

Tuesday, Mayor Dayne Walling held a press conference to say thank you to those who helped “take a bite out of crime.”

“There were only ten more fires over the Halloween period than our fire department would routinely fight over a long weekend period.  So, you can see our community has made significant steps,” Mayor Dayne Walling stated.

Amanda Woods, one of the volunteers who helped during the weekend states, says the night was a “enjoyable experience” as they took tip phone calls and walk-ins while keeping an eye out for crime.

The City of Flint says that while Halloween weekend is over this year, they’re still looking for volunteers for their mini-stations. If you’re interested in helping, you can contact the Flint Police Department at 810-237-6800 or visit their website.
