It’s a horrific tragedy that is a parent’s worst nightmare: Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

SIDS can happen to any child and is nearly impossible for healthcare providers to predict.  However, the Genesys Family Birthing Center says there are some ways that parents can prevent tragedies from occurring.

Genesys says placing a baby on his/her back and keeping their crib bare is the first step.  They also say it is important to have a firm mattress or a breath-able mattress.  They also suggest breast feeding can help prevent SIDS and other issues.

The Genesys Family Birthing Center is offering monthly classes to help parents of newborns.  You can sign up for the classes by calling the Genesys Family Birthing Center at 810-606-5897.

Meanwhile, a representatives from the Genesys Family Birthing Center and from Secure Beginnings, a Michigan company that has created a new crib design, visited the NBC25 Morning Show Tuesday to give further tips on how to prevent SIDS and other tragedies. You can watch their interviews in the video box above.
