TUSCOLA CO. -- A barricaded gunman has been arrested after threatening to shoot police.
Tuscola County Undersheriff Glen Skrent reports a 45-year-old man was distraught over the pending foreclosure of his home and a notice that his utilities were to be shut off.
The man appeared to be intoxicated when authorities arrived at the home on Bray Road in Arbela Township.
Deputies tried to contact him over the phone, but the man said he would shoot any officers or utility workers that came near the building.
The man then discharged a round of bullets from inside the home. At that point, the law enforcement officers were forced to take cover. They continued to surround the area, not sure where the suspect was located on the property.
Shortly after the gunfire, the suspect approached an office. The deputies attempted to talk with him, but he refused to comply with their commands.
Eventually, he was taken into custody and was lodged at the Tuscola County Jail on various weapons violations. Fortunately, no one was injured during the standoff.
