Lanes to be charged Tuesday

FLINT TOWNSHIP -- An ex-con suspected of committing two murders in Flint Township is scheduled to be formally charged by police on Tuesday.

Investigators say Marcus Lanes barricaded himself in a Flint motel Sunday for four hours, before police could arrest him.

It was a busy weekend for residents here at the Clover Tree apartments. First two people were found stabbed to death, then police announced that a suspect was on the loose.

Drmeanious Conway says, "I seen detectives and police and forensics everywhere and I didn't know what was going on."

Police found the bodies of 53 year old Phyllis Woodson and her father 78 year old Charles Woodson. Neighbors are horrified.

Isaiah Towns says, "I live over here and my reaction was I was scared at first because this is where I stay at."

Investigators immediately started looking for 44 Marcus Darnell Lanes.

He used to be in a relationship with one of the victims, Phyliss Woodson. He's also on parole in Michigan and wanted in Georgia.

Police caught up with him Sunday at the East Village Inn in downtown Flint. Lanes took a hostage and barricaded himself for four hours. The neighborhood was on lockdown but today residents are breathing a sigh of relief.

Resident Shawn Wharton says, "A little scary to find that he'd been staying across the street from me for a few days but I'm glad they got him in custody."
