The Mayor of Saginaw is speaking out against a new report that list the city as the most dangerous city in the nation. He believes the information is just wrong. Police and the community have been working hard this year to prevent scenes like this one, a Saginaw murder earlier this year.
In 2011, police recorded 13 homicides, thats higher than last year. Now, the website neighborhoodscout.com is once again listing Saginaw as the most dangerous place in America.
Resident Tammy Worth agrees saying, " Was I surprised, no I'm not surprised because its probably more or less true."
Justin Sheard also agrees saying, " A lot of murders going on, a lot of people getting killed."
But, not everyone agrees, namely Saginaw Mayor Greg Branch. He says, " I think it's a minor distraction that probably has gotten more attention than it merits."
First, Branch doesn't like the comparison's to other cities. He says they are all unique. He also points to incorrect numbers listed on the site saying, " It was kind of interesting because they have the wrong populations numbers listed for us."
The site lists Saginaw at 62-thousand when actually the population is 51-thousand. The sites crime stats also differ from the FBI. Still, the Mayor and residents agree that there is a crime problem in Saginaw. Whether its worthy to be called the most violent city in America remains to be seen.
