LANSING --

Michigan schools have six months to put anti-bullying policies into place.

Tuesday, Governor Rick Snyder signed legislation known as "Matt's Safe School Law".

The bill is named after Matt Epling, a 14-year-old East Lansing student who committed suicide in 2002 after being bullied.

Efforts to pass a law fizzled for years until this past spring when Gov. Snyder urged lawmakers to put one on the books. 

“This legislation sends a clear message that bullying is wrong in all its forms and will not be tolerated,” Gov. Snyder said in a written release. “No child should feel intimidated or afraid to come to school.”
