Flint Northern school officials say they've got a good idea who may be responsible for Wednesday night's shooting.

The victim is 19-year-old Kewan Conklin-Bradley.

We don't know if he was a student at Northern, but the school says it took the right steps to keep people safe.

Around 1,700 people packed the stands for the Coca-Cola Classic basketball tournament at Northern.

Investigators say around 8:30 p.m. near the entrance some young people were arguing.

They tried to get inside, but security kept them out.

Then, at least one person pulled out a gun.

"I heard some shots, about 6 shots it sounded like. I got up, and I looked out the window at the cop cars and I know something bad must have happened," says neighbor Susan Masko.

Flint police say the victim was shot in the torso but will survive. He'd been standing on a sidewalk and was taken to the hospital.

"In terms of what we as a district could control, I think we did a very good job," says Flint Schools spokesman Bob Campbell.

The Flint School District says it had metal detectors at both entrances and security at the doors, in the crowd, and in the halls.

School officials tell NBC25 they have no intention on cancelling the event next year. However, they do say they are considering beefing up security, like putting patrol cars at the entrances of the parking lot.

Campbell says, "It's a few individuals like that who spoil the party for everyone. We're still pleased overall. It was a good turnout for students, families, and the whole community."

Masko says, "It's getting awful bad out here when people have to be so stupid to shoot people for no reason."

People inside the gym say they did not hear the gunshots and were unaware of the incident.

Police say the victim is in good condition.
