Other records shattered on St. Patty's Day
The thermometer at Tri-Cities airport in Freeland got to a place it has never reached this early in a
calendar year today. The official high temperature of 80 degrees is the earliest 80 degree reading
recorded at the airport since records have been kept going back to 1892. It also breaks the daily
record for the Tri-Cities of 72 degrees on St. Patty's Day in 1945. Flint's high of 79 degrees also
shatters the old daily record of 73 from March 17th, 1945. Record highs were also set in Detroit, and
as far north in Michigan as Marquette today. Sunday is expected to bring more record highs, with a
forecast high of 80 degrees. Flint's record for March 18th of 67 degrees set in 1969 should fall easily.
We are also expected to break the record for the longest stretch of 60+ degree days since the early
1900s. There is a cool down coming, though. Check out the NBC25 forecast here.
