Construction set to begin in August
FLINT -- In a move that will bring more peace of mind to workers inside Flint Engine Operations, General Motors has decided to invest $7.5 million for the construction of permanent offices at both ends of the plant.
"Its important for this plant, which has more than 600 to 700 employees, and this community. Adding the offices actually is literally putting that stake in the ground that this plant is going to be here for awhile," said GM spokesperson Tom Wickham.
Offices at the plant have been housed in temporary trailers since operations first began in 1999.
Construction on the nearly 40,000 square foot facilities is set to begin in August.
A 20,000 square foot facility will take up part of the northwest corner of the property, while a 17,500 square foot property will be built near the corner of Bristol Rd. and Van Slyke.
GM is hoping to have the offices finished by September 2013.
