Restoration project helps Flint churches

Members from Flint Eastside Mission are sitting down after a long day of hard work. Nearly 300 people were at St. Mary's Church and throughout the community in Flint cleaning up. One church they stopped by was Abundant Grace Ministries Church of the Nazarene.

Pastor Gregory L. Cavette Sr. said, "they are restoring rotten wood were the animals have gotten into the church. They are putting lights on the outside and around the church and inside the foyer area."

"Some windows that were cracked. . .  they have now replaced all that stuff," added First Lady Sandra Cavette.

Sandra said, they are thankful that the volunteers repaired the church for free because most people are not providing services with no charge in 2012.

The church was repaired three years ago, but the pastor told NBC25 the restoration project topped the one in the past.

"This has happened before, but not in this magnitude," responded Pastor Cavette.

While the members of the congregation relaxed, others showed them the true meaning of giving.

"We just have each other's back. I'm not sure how it happens, but it happens and we just thank God that it happened to us at this moment," said Pastor Cavette.

This is the first restoration project for Flint Eastside Mission. They said they hope to make it an annual event.
