PINCONNING -- An ultra-light plane crash in Pinconning just after six a.m. Wednesday claimed the life of a Bay City dentist.

Dr. Paul Rogers was flying in a pink gyroplane near Carl A. Gross Airport when the plane unexpectedly nose dived into a farm field.

Investigators from the Bay County Sheriff's Department tell NBC25 Rogers appeared to be flying a close pattern near the airport when the plane went down.

This is the second fatal crash in Mid-Michigan in the past three days.

Monday, a vintage bi-plane crashed near Bancroft in Shiawassee County, killing a female passenger.

In late March, a Piper Tri-Pacer also crashed while trying to land at Gross Airport, injuring the pilot.

The gyroplane was produced by a company in Hastings called Honey Bee G2, LLC.

Gross airport is located along I-75 north of Bay City near exit 181.
