FLINT -- Olympic gold medalist and Flint native Claressa Shields is back home.
Shields was scheduled to land at Bishop International Airport at 5:05 p.m.; however, she missed her connecting flight in Washington, D.C. and was scheduled to land in Flint at 9:53 p.m. But thanks to some manuvering by the airlines, she landed in Flint around 5:30 p.m.
Claressa was greeted with a hero's welcome by family, friends, classmates and community members on hand to congratulate her on winning the first-ever gold medal in women's boxing in the middleweight division.
There will be a party at Berston Field House following her arrival.
We will have more on her arrival tonight on NBC 25 News at 11.
