FLINT -- A local doctor helps children from all over the world who are on the autism spectrum.

Over the weekend, three families from Barbados were in Flint to see Dr. Brad Habermehl who practices at the Flint Sensory Learning Center.

Habermehl is treating the children who are all on the autism spectrum. He met them last December when he traveled to a special needs school in Barbados.

Families say the program is helping their children. "You want to put your children in the position to achieve their potential, realize their potential and do the best that they can. And this helps," says parent Francis Thompson.

"This is not a cure for autism but the point is it helps most of these kids in areas of multi-tasking. It really helps their quality of life and improving their ability to learn," says Dr. Habermehl.

The families return to Barbados Monday.
