SAGINAW -- Concerned Saginaw community members gathered Thursday evening to protest violence.
This year has been one of the most violent in the city's recent history.
Within a 12-hour time period two shootings in Saginaw have left two people dead including a 6-year-old girl, Layla Jones. Her father, Sharowne is currently in critical but stable condition after being shot Wednesday night.
The second victim, Bobby Deandre Bailey, was shot and killed Wednesday afternoon.
Protestors marched from the site of one shooting to the other to take a stand.
"It's not fair. Not fair that we have to bury a child an innocent baby. A beautiful baby girl. Beautiful," says Yolanda Cope, aunt of the 6-year-old victim.
"It's heartbreaking seeing lives lost but to see innocent lives taken it's traumatizing and it just has an adverse effect. You toss and turn you can't sleep at night," says Larry Campbell, president of the Neighborhood Association.
Saginaw Police do not know who is responsible for the shootings at this time. They are holding a press conference Friday to urge residents to come forward and help in their investigations.
The Neighborhood Association meets the third Thursday of the month at the First Ward Community Center in Saginaw at 6p.m.
They invite community members to get involved.
