FLINT -- U of MĀ Flint welcomed more than a thousand kids and their families to get up close and personal with police and fire equipment Saturday.
It was all part of the first ever "Touch the Truck" event.
U of MĀ student government and local public safety officials teamed up to give people the opportunity to meet local law enforcement and learn more about being prepared in an emergency.
"We want to be a part of the community. That's what we're doing today showing everybody we're here for them and they're welcome on campus" says UM Flint student Jared Arnold.
Organizers hope to hold the event each year.
