FLINT -- Members of the Jewish faith are celebrating Hannukkah.

The holiday, stretching eight days, started at sundown on Saturday.

Meanwhile during a ceremony Monday three candles were lit on a menorah inside Hurley Medical Center.

It's become a tradition in Flint.

A member of a local temple says the festival of lights promotes freedom of religion.

"The significance of Hannukkah is really universal. There are many people who are still battling for religious freedom all over the world. And religious freedom is something we all can be very thankful we have in this country," Temple Beth El Director Emily Alter said. 

Channukah ends Sunday evening.
