FLINT -- After the fiscal cliff uncertainty earlier this year, tax season officially began this week, and people can now file their income tax returns.

Tax preparers in Genesee County say they're ready for business, and that this year, you might need their help, given some changes.

For example, the IRS won't accept returns that include some 30 tax forms used to claim credits or deductions until later this season because they all need to be revised.

“The education credit, anyone receiving that this year, they will not be able to file for that until the middle of February,” Nadine Harris of the Liberty Tax Service office in Flint said.

Other forms that won’t be revised and available until later this season include the mortgage interest credit and work opportunity credit forms.  Check with your tax preparer to see which forms are available.
