Mid-Michigan welcomed a new professional sports team Thursday.
Saginaw is getting an indoor football team.
The Dow Event Center will host games for the Saginaw Sting
It is an expansion team of the continental Indoor Football League.
"Top to bottom, from the success of the Spirit, and the Loons in their first season, what they have done, tells you Saginaw is a minor league sports town," says Mike Johnson the co-owner of the Saginaw Sting.
Karl Featherstone, who was the coach for the Michigan Pirates when they played in Flint last year, will coach the Sting.
"We didn't get all the media attention, having people that really wanted us in the area, so I'm really excited about it," says Featherstone.
The owners of the Sting are no strangers to the league, they also own and operate the Kalamazoo Xplosion.
James Wade, the General Manager of the Dow Event Center, says he's happy their venue will play host.
"Their philosophies, their ideas, and how they want to be in Saginaw is what made us say this is the team we want to go with," says Wade.
The sting kick off their inaugural season next March.
Tickets will soon be on sale for the first six home games.
They are between $9 and $14 each.
