Three stroke victory for world's top golfer

GRAND BLANC TWP. -- Highlights from Tiger Woods' 2009 Buick Open title:

Earns his 69th career PGA TOUR victory at the age of 33 years, 7 months and 3 days in his 247th (233rdprofessional) career start on TOUR. The 69 victories are third all-time on the PGA TOUR behind Sam Snead (82) and Jack Nicklaus (73).

1)        Sam Snead – 82; won 69th (1954 Masters) at the age of 41 years, 10 months, 15 days
2)        Jack Nicklaus – 73; won 69th (1980 U.S. Open) at the age of 40 years, 4 months, 25 days
3)        Tiger Woods – 69; won 69th (2009 Buick Open) at the age of 33 years, 7 months and 3 days

Earns 500 FedExCup points to move to 1stin the FedExCup standings with 2,551 points.


BUICK OPEN NOTES
With wins in 2002, 2006 & 2009, joins Vijay Singh as the only three-time winners of the Buick Open. Is one of five multiple winners of the tournament (3 wins-Woods, Singh; 2 wins-Tony Lema, Julius Boros, Kenny Perry).

With rounds of 71-63-65-69 this week, has now recorded all 36 rounds at Warwick Hills with par-or-better scores. He opened his career at the Buick Open with an even-par 72, and has since reeled off 35 under-par rounds.

Has made the cut in all nine starts at the Buick Open, with a T11 finish in 2000 his worst outing. Has seven top-4 finishes in nine starts (2009-1, 2006-1, 2005-T2, 2004-T3, 2003-T2, 2002-1, 1998-T4).

Posted a 1-under 71 and was T95 on Thursday, representing his worst position after the opening round of any tournament he eventually won. Previously it was a T83 start en route to victory at the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational.

Becomes the 50th winner of the Buick Open, a total which includes unofficial winners from 1972-76. Also recorded his 50th career win at the 2006 Buick Open.

CAREER NOTES
Is 36-1 (97 percent) when holding the outright 54-hole lead, with his lone loss coming in the first third-round lead of his career at the 1996 Quad City Classic.

Has now won 47 of 50 PGA TOUR events (94 percent) when leading/co-leading after 54 holes. The three times he didn’t win: T5/1996 Quad City Open, 2/2000 and 2004 THE TOUR Championship.

Has won 21 of last 39 (54 percent) PGA TOUR starts dating to the 2006 British Open.

With his fourth win of 2009, has now won four or more tournaments in 11 of 14 seasons on TOUR, since turning professional in late August at the 1996 Greater Milwaukee Open.
