Pasquale finishes with 53 saves for Saginaw

SAGINAW -- The Saginaw Spirit beat the Kingston Frontenacs 6-2 Friday night at The Dow Event Center.

Goaltender Edward Pasquale (NHL ATLANTA THRASHERS) posted 53 saves on 55 shots to finish the game, while wingers Jordan Szwarz (NHL PHEONIX COYOTES) and Joe Pleckaitis each added one goal and two assists to the effort. The win moves Saginaw’s record to 16-8-2-0 for the season.

The Spirit opened the first period with a power play goal at the 7:37 mark by center Vincent Trocheck. Assists were credited to winger Jordan Szwarz (NHL PHEONIX COYOTES) and defenseman Joe Underwood. Saginaw moved ahead 2-0 when winger Joe Pleckaitis tallied a goal at 8:04. Wingers Stephen Francella and Anthony Camara assisted on the play. Kingston notched their first goal when defenseman Jaroslav Kruzik found the net at 9:54, with assists coming from winger Zach Harnden and center Nathan Moon (NHL PITTSBURGH PENGUINS). The period ended with the Spirit ahead 2-1.

Saginaw was the only team to find the net in the second period when Szwarz tallied a goal at 4:40. Winger Joe Pleckaitis and defenseman Cody Sol (NHL ATLANTA THRASHERS) assisted on the play. The period ended with the Spirit ahead 3-1. The Frontenacs opened the third period with a goal at 3:24, scored by winger Steven Broek and assisted by winger Andrew Clouthier and center Alan Quine. The Spirit fought back, adding a goal from winger Jordan Skellet at 4:53, with assists from Szwarz and Pleckaitis. Skellet tallied his second goal of the game 18:29 into the period, receiving assists from defenseman Ryan O’Conner and winger Josh Shalla. Shortly after, winger Mitch Fillman passed the puck to center Vincent Trocheck scoring on an empty net at 19:40, capping off a 6-2 win for the Spirit.

Spirit netminder Edward Pasquale (NHL ATLANTA THRASHERS) posted 53 saves on 55 shots while Frontenacs goaltender Tyler Beskorrowany (NHL DALLAS STARS) kicked aside 28 saves on 34 attempts.
