Tigers defeat conference foe Oxford, 53-21
FENTON -- The Fenton and Grand Blanc girls basketball teams looked poised for big seasons, and their respective foes found that out the hard way on Monday night.
In a Flint Metro matchup, the host Tigers dominated an overmatched squad from Oxford by a 53-21 final. Meanwhile, in Grand Blanc, the Bobcats earned a 63-44 victory over former Big Nine foe Carman-Ainsworth. Grand Blanc consistently beat the Cavaliers down the floor after missed shots for a slew of easy transition baskets.
Though they're no longer in the same conference, there is no lack of familiarity between the girls' squads at Grand Blanc and Carman-Ainsworth.
"They're pretty fun to play with," said Bobcat junior guard Alyssa Browne, who scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. "We've been playing them since middle school, and I'm used to seeing all the girls. And I know pretty much all of them."
"We've played Carman once already, and we know that they're a tough team," added Grand Blanc head coach Megan Noll. "They go after loose balls, and they want to win the toughness battle. So, we had girls diving after each other at practice during break. And we just talked about making sure we had the heart and effort to win games. I think they really showed that, especially in the second half tonight."
