"Flint Steelheaders Boat, Fishing & Outdoor Show" begins Friday
BIRCH RUN -- It's called the "Flint Steelheaders Boat, Fishing & Outdoor Show." Yes, it's a mouthful...but it's also one of Mid-Michigan's most highly-anticipated events.
"It (has) developed a very interesting, but very well-deserved reputation as being THE outdoor show in the area," said Elaine King, Media Consultant for the Steelheaders.
Fans attending the three-day event can expect many signature exhibits from last year, including the popular hunting simulator and the trout pond, which are always the center of attention.
"They got pretty good attendance at it, good crowd around it," said Dale Chapman, Jr., of Lapeer. "Trout pond, a lot of kids getting in there and catching those trout. They come carrying their bag of trout through here, and they're all proud as heck at what they caught."
Perhaps the most eye-catching object at this year's show is a pink boat symbolizing the fight against breast cancer, donated by Wilson Marine.
"We just decided to do something for breast cancer awareness," said Wilson Marine Service Director Bill Koza. "Wilson Marine's been big into cancer (fund-raising). We do Relay for Life, and the owner decided to do something else. Get out in the publlic and get some donations from the public."
Whether you're young or old, male or female, there is something for everyone at the Flint Steelheaders Boat, Fishing & Outdoor Show. But it's pretty clear what the main attraction is.
"When you go to the North Arena and you see all those big, beautiful boats and they're just full of people looking and talking and just enjoying...and probably dreaming a little bit, too," added King.
The show runs from 3 p.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Sunday.
