Hornets hold off Detroit Allen 28-26

MONTROSE -- Monica Confer put the New Lothrop girls basketball team on her back Tuesday night and carried the Hornets to a 28-26 victory over Detroit Allen Academy in the Class C State Quarterfinals at Montrose High School.

Confer finished with 14 points, as New Lothrop moved two wins away from a third consecutive state title.

In Mount Pleasant, Hamady was forced to go to overtime versus Morley-Stanwood, but prevailed over the Mohawks 56-54.

Conference rivals Hamady and New Lothrop meet Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Breslin Center in the Class C Semifinals.

It was a rough night for the five other Mid-Michigan quarterfinalists.

Midland Dow was routed by Canton in Class A 53-36.

In Class B, Goodrich lost to Detroit Country Day 64-49 and Freeland was knocked out by Kingsford 53-43.

Both Class D schools were eliminated as well.

Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart fell to Central Lake 51-45, and Deckerville lost to Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes 62-55.
