Draft picks invade Bay Ice Arena

SAGINAW -- Though it may be the end of the road for the Flint Generals, the Saginaw Spirit are already in preparations for the upcoming season.

Saturday, at the Bay Ice Arena in Saginaw, many of the newer faces to the franchise took the ice for the first time with one another, which included players selected in the recently-completed OHL entry draft.

It's sometimes easy to forget that these kids are still very young, which brings a key phrase to mind.

"You're cautiously optimistic," said Spirit Head Scout Jim Paliafito.  "These are 15, 16 year-old young men. A lot of it will have to do with...we know they have skill. Now it will be, you know, what their off-ice effort is during the off-season. And what kinds of efforts they make in the gym, trying to get stronger and bettering themselves."
