Heisman Trophy winner honored at Atwood Stadium
FLINT -- Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram Jr.
Quite a title for a 20-year old to possess.
The city of Flint honored one of its own on Saturday at Atwood Stadium, with a special homecoming ceremony for Alabama running back Mark Ingram Jr.
"I know that it happened but it hasn't really hit me yet. I remember we won the national championship Thursday and on Monday Coach (Nick) Saban said its time to move on. Its time to prepare for another season and put ourselves in a position to win another national championship. I know that I did it, people are congratulating me, but at the same time I don't think its hit me yet," said Ingram, when asked about winning the Heisman Trophy and a BCS National Championship in the same season.
Ingram was only the third sophomore in history to win the Heisman Trophy, and only the 12th Heisman winner to capture a national title in the same season.
Among the ceremony's attendees, Flint mayor Dayne Walling and a handful of well known Flint athletes like Andre Rison.
