Undefeated Irish to face powerhouse Crystal Falls in Division Eight
ALMA -- Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart's football team will be taking part in a rare Friday night semifinal, giving the Irish a full week to rest up for the state championship...should they get past Division Eight powerhouse Crystal Falls Forest Park, of course.
The undefeated squad taking the field at Alma College on Tuesday, to continue preparations to battle a team which has made Ford Field its home away from home.
Crystal Falls has reached the Division Eight state finals a whopping six years in a row, though they fell to Beal City in last year's state title game.
Sacred Heart is determined to end Crystal Falls' streak on Friday night, and the style of play between these two powers could not be more different.
"We're an explosive, get-the-ball, no-huddle, hurry-up team that scores quickly," explained Sacred Heart head coach Rick Roberts. "They're a team that methodically uses the clock and moves the chains, keeps the ball away from you. That factor, you know, does have me worried slightly, because of how they play."
"We're looking at the task at hand, no doubt," added senior wideout Matt Mills. "Crystal Falls has been to the finals the past six years, so they're not a team we can overlook. And we just gotta come prepared and ready to play."
"I'm not worried. Our coaches have looked at their game tape, they're getting us ready," added a confident Chris Chermside-Scabbo. "They know how to win ballgames, and we'll perform and do what they do. Get it done."
