B.C. Western star key to Warriors' success this season
AUBURN -- We are less than five weeks away from the season debut of "Hometown Hoops," here on NBC25, and the Bay City Western Warriors will be among the many teams we'll keep a close eye on this season. The Warriors feature star junior forward Matt Costello, who will be headed to Michigan State in the fall of 2012.
But first thing's first, as Costello looks to lead the Warriors through the always-brutal Saginaw Valley League, and he will take the court this season with a clear mind, having already announced his plans for college.
"One of the advantages that I wanted to have was getting it out of the way, so I could just focus on bettering my high school team, and forging myself as a basketball player," said Costello. "Not to have to worry about college at all. It's easy with Michigan State, you know you're a lock to be a great program, so you don't have to worry about that at all, and focus on what you're doing at home."
"He can be the kid who committed to Michigan State, and he can sit on it, but that's not his nature," added B.C. Western head coach Chris Watz. "So, he knows that my requirement of him is that he's the hardest worker now. He's got to be, because he's supposed to be the best one."
