Bears claim second consecutive state crown with 83-55 win over Kalamazoo Valley
FLINT -- A long bus ride? Lack of sleep? Three games in four days? None of it could slow down the red-hot Mott Bears on Saturday afternoon.
The #1 team in the NJCAA claimed their second consecutive state championship at Ballenger Field House, destroying Kalamazoo Central by an 83-55 final. Five Bears scored in double-figures, led by Sam Burton's 21. Demetrius Miller added 18, Doug Anderson and Mike Brigham 12 apiece, and Marshawn Norris chipped in 10 points with nine rebounds.
Mott (28-2, 15-1), will host the NJCAA District 9 Tournament at Ballenger Field House, which begins Tuesday night. The top-seeded Bears earned a first-round bye, and will take on either St. Clair or Kirtland in the semi-finals on Friday night at 7:30, with the tournament title game taking place the following afternoon. The winner of the District 9 Tournament earns a berth into the NJCAA National Tournament.
