Frankenmuth prepares for a first-round match up with Frankenmuth in the MHSAA playoffs
MT. MORRIS TOWNSHIP -- At 5-4, the Powers Catholic Chargers weren't sure if they'd even be in the playoffs, but the group that gathered last night to watch the MHSAA Selection Show were more than happy to see their name on the screen. If they were happy to see their opponent's name, well that remains to be seen.
The Chargers take on the 6-3 Eagles from Frankenmuth, but Powers actually gets the home field advantage thanks to their playoff point totals from beating four class-A opponents in the regular season. Long time coach Bob Buckel admits this will be a tough test for his team, but they spent a good part of Monday watching film on the Eagles, so we asked him, what do the Chargers need to do to beat them?
"Frankenmuth is a good football team, they have an outstanding quarterback, a couple of outstanding running backs," Buckel said. "Two years ago I worked at their football camp, so I know they have a system of offense that's been very productive for them. We know we have to slow them down, we have to stop the quarterback that's what we will concentrate on. Also, we have to move the ball and score and we've been pretty inconsistent with that lately. That's a big concern for us moving the ball on their defense."
Game time is Friday at 7 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Field.
