The Lady Martians finish thier season undefeated at 28-0
EAST LANSING -- The Goodrich Lady Martinans made the most of their second trip to the state finals, winning the Class B championship 60-53 over Grand Rapids Catholic Central.
In the final game, senior Frankie Joubran led the Martians with 16 points and five rebounds. Junior Aketra Sevillian scored 13 while Morgan Eddy pulled down 13 rebounds.
After falling short last year, Joubran wore a smile during the post-game press conference.
"It was worth the wait," she said. "For myself, my team and my coaches, we're blessed to be here."
Head coach Jason Gray saw seven lead changes and his Martians trail by five in the fourth quarter.
"Heck of a battle tonight," he said.
The Martians' last loss was in last year's state semifinal against Dearborn Divine Child. Goodrich beat them yesterday to get into tonight's title game.
This is the Martians' first-ever state championship in girls basketball.
