A black bear that was relocated after trying to make a home out of a hole along I-75 in Bay County has died after being struck by a vehicle.

Officials used a tranquilizer to sedate the 180-pound animal last Wednesday before pulling it from the hole in Bay County's Fraser Township.

The bear was struck about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday along a small road in Bay County.

Authorities say the 2-year-old bear was so badly injured that it had to be euthanized. The driver of the vehicle wasn't hurt in the collision.

After being tranquilized last week, the bear was fitted with a GPS tracking device. The DNR tracked the bear near I-75 again before it was hit.
