FLINT -- Members of the Mott community gathered Tuesday evening to honor Mott Community College Head Basketball Coach, Steve Schmidt, as a honorary distinguished alumnus member for MCC.
Schmidt, who has worked at Mott for the past 21 years, has had plenty of recent success, leading Mott to four national championships over the past 11 seasons, including their league's most recent title.
Schmidt is the first person who didn't attend Mott Community College to be recognized as a distinguished alumnus.
“All my players are alumni, so to be recognized as a honorary alumni and the first one they’ve recognized, it’s a humbling experience," Schmidt said. "I really don’t know how to put into words, I just appreciate everything that’s come this way. But most of all, I appreciate the hard work of our players."
