FLINT -- Female boxer and Flint native Claressa Shields has earned a bid to compete in the 2012 Summer Olymipcs in London.

NBC25's Jamie Edmonds received a text message from trainer Jason Crutchfield on Friday morning stating "She's in!!!".

Shields received the bid from the International Olympic Committee Commission. One boxer from each weight class is selected for the at-large bid.

The Flint native suffered the first loss of her amateur career Sunday in China.

England's Savannah Marshall beat Shields 14-8 in the 2012 World Boxing Championships to knock Shields out of the tournament.

Shields, who is now 26-1 with 14 knock outs, was a favorite to win.

The 17-year-old won the U.S. Olympic Trials in Spokane a few months ago, and needed to finish in the top-two for Americans to secure her spot on the Olympic team.
