MT MORRIS TOWNSHIP -- The regional finals get underway this week in high school girls lacrosse, and one team expected to make a run for the state finals, is the Powers Chargers.
First year coach Nikey Rosol has take her 9-6 squad to the Catholic League final game, only to come up one game short. Now she said they're ready for the MHSAA playoffs.
The Chargers take on Flushing this Wednesday at Flushing High School.
Powers is feeling confident. If they beat the Raiders, they could move on to play East Lansing, then possibly Okemos in the regional final.
Rosol, who brought Lacrosse to the middle school, said the game is picking up in the area, just as her team is making a name for itself.
"We are a very good transition team," Rosol said of the Chargers. "They're passing the ball along the field versus running and gunning it all the way down, and we are very strong on defense this year."
"I mean we're not the fastest team but we move the ball well," Jillian Tomczak, a senior captain on the team, said. "Girl's lacrosse is big about finesse, we move the ball around, it's more of a skilled sport rather than physical one."
