SAGINAW -- The Saginaw Sting defeated the Dayton Silverbacks 35-7 to win the Continental Indoor Football League Championship at the Dow Event Center in Saginaw.
Quarterback Tommy Jones threw five touchdown passes as the Sting avenged an early deficit in the first quarter.
Sting co-owner Stu Schweigert, former NFL and Purdue University defensive back, said this championship was the biggest of his athletic career.
"TO have it all come to a head for the championship in front of the largest crowd ever... this is huge," Schweigert said.
It's the second consecutive championship for the Sting franchise. However, it is their first in the CIFL as they won last year's United Indoor Football League championship.
