The Midland County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a tractor accident that claimed the life of 44 year old Mills Township man.

The accident happened on private property at 2035 E Baker Rd in Midland County. Evidence at the scene indicates the driver was using a 1950 Farmall tractor to drag downed trees out of the woods to cut up for firewood.

The driver was travelling down the narrow trail when one of the trees he was dragging got caught on a live tree near the edge of the trail. This caused the tractor to flip over backward pinning the driver to the ground underneath it. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The tractor operator, identified as Greggory James Caldwell was transported to the Mid Michigan Medical Center in Midland until his family could be notified and funeral arrangements made. This accident remains under investigation.

The Midland County Sheriff Office was assisted at the scene by Mid Michigan Midland EMS and the Mills Township Fire Department.
