EUGENE, OR -- It's been a few days since Grand Blanc Native Geena Gall got a spot on the US Olympic team, and she said it's just now sinking in.

Gall told NBC25 Wednesday that making the Olympic team was a childhood dream of hers ever since she watched the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, but as she grew and ran track for Grand Blanc high school, she never pictured herself with the USA on her back.

Fast forward to last Sunday in Eugene Oregon, when Gall finished second in the women's 800 meters at the Olympic trials to earn a spot on team USA.

Gall said it's been an up-and-down few years for her since she came up short in her last Olympic trials as a junior at the University of Michigan.

She said it was tough to move out to Eugene following graduation in 2009, but this year she's having a banner season.

In fact, she said she hasn't even peaked this year yet, so she's expecting to do well in London.

NBC25 wanted to know, how did it feel to cross the finish line Sunday and know you are now a future Olympian?

"I was ecstatic," Gall said via the phone. "I knew I made the team, I thought I caught Alysia Montano, but I knew as soon as I crossed the finish line I did it. I was praising the lord; I put my hand in the air; it was a sigh of relief. I was so extremely happy I made my dream come true making the Olympic team."

We'll have more on Geena Gall in the coming weeks as part of NBC 25's Olympics coverage. Gall leaves for London on July 8th.
