Former Penn State coach Joe Paterno was among four of the school’s top officials who covered up the child sex abuse allegations made against Jerry Sandusky to save the Penn State brand and not face public embarrassment, according to a 267-page report released by former FBI director Louis Freeh Thursday.

Freeh’s firm conducted an eight month investigation, interviewing over 400 former and current Penn State employees and reading more than 3.5 million e-mails.

Along with Paterno, former athletic director Tim Curley, school president Graham Spanier, and vice president Gary Schultz hid critical information regarding allegations against Sandusky.

Curley and Schultz are facing perjury charges after lying to a grand jury investigating allegations against Sandusky. Spanier was fired back in November. Sandusky was found guilty on 45 of 48 charges after last month’s trial.
