SAGINAW TOWNSHIP -- An undefeated 13-0 record and a Division 7 state title.

It's going to be a tough act to follow for Nouvel Catholic Central football after a perfect season in 2011 but that is the task at hand in 2012.

Head coach Mike Boyd has a solid nucleus of underclassmen returning who still have the memories of a state championship fresh in their minds but with the opener for the Panthers just six days away he is preaching to his team not to rely on the success of last season.

"It should give them some confidence," said Boyd.  "They were part of something really special last year and they've got some feel for how it needs to be done.  But they need to keep it in perspective and they can't forget about all the hard work that was put in by our seniors last year to get to that point.  Hopefully it gives them a pathway to follow."

Nouvel Catholic will open the season on Thursday August 23 at home against University Liggett.

They will also raise their state championship banner.
