BURTON -- It's the midway point of the high school boys soccer season, and Burton's Genesee Christian has come out of nowhere to post an 11-1 record.

They beat Memphis Monday by a score of 3-0. In fact, in all 11 wins, the Soldiers have not given up a goal.

Genesee Christian also beat rival Saginaw Valley Lutheran last week, a team they hope to meet up with in districts this year.

The soldiers offense is led by Junior Clay Selby who's 3rd in the state with 37 total points. He's also in the top five for goals (25) and assists (12.)

But, despite Selby's personal play, Head Coach Doug Anderson chalks up this surprising start to a full-team effort.

"The guys worked hard and that's what's allowed us to get here," Anderson said.

"I think our strength as team is our solid defense," Senior Hunter Selby said. "Plus, we have my brother, Clay, scoring a lot of goals, so the team looks to him for that."

"This year, I think we are older and more well-rounded from defense to midfield to forward," Clay Selby said. "Plus, we have a lot of returning players."
